KSFA Inter-Association
7 a-side competition
8th October 2011
The whole of the BSA squad turned up to take part in this event we formed two teams BSA A and BSA B. BSA A were drawn in group 3 and this is the report of their game
Group matches
Our first match was against Bexley C and we quickly settled into playing 7 aside again and shortly were one goal up scored by 99 Jamie Fearn and defended well to finish the game one nil.
We quickly turned round to face our next match against West Kent B and got into our stride quickly scoring three goals in the ten minutes, two from 10 Reece Milton and one by Thomas Cecil number 7 again we defended and kept a clean sheet for the second match.
After a one match break we were off again playing Gravesham B continuously we kept the ball and had lots of shots on goal but their keeper proved to good and saved everyone until 78 Joedon got on the end of a well worked move and scored from a difficult angle putting us one nil up which was the final score.
Again we were straight on to our final group match against Dartford keen to keep our winning streak. We had our share of the possession and had a lot of chances once hitting the post and at least twice chipping the ball over the bar but this did not frustrate us and Jamie Fearn finished the group stages with another great goal. Dartford had a number of attacking moves but due to fine keeping by 26 Jack Smith we were again able to keep a clean sheet once again winning 1-0.
Quarter Finals
As winners of group 3 we were drawn to play Orpington A which proved to be a more difficult match with chances at both ends having good saves at both end of the pitch. At the end of the 2 halves we were still drawing0-0 which led us into sudden death penalties-scary stuff! 99 Jamie Fearn stepped up proudly to take our first penalty-he scored. The Unbeaten Jack Smith stepped confidently into the goal and brilliantly saved their penalty one handed-were through to the semi-final.
Semi-Finals
Dover A we were playing and started off well with two good shots and runs by 99 Jamie Fearn but unfortunately both saved and deflected by the keeper. Next number 7 Thomas Cecil had a shot but it went wide by a few cm not giving up we had a well-deserved goal by number 99 Jamie Fearn tapping the ball around the keeper hitting the post and in-we were over joyed to be in the final!! We were worried that skipper Coppard was injured following a near fatal blow to the ear-he recovered quickly!
The Final
We started off well but we had a few early attacks from Dover but the ball went over the bar.
Shortly 9 Alex Smith passed to 99 Jamie Fearn who dribbled his way to the side where he lobbed the keeper. 1-0 to BSA
Dover reacted and number 7 on their side shot at the goal and Bradley caught the ball but it was wet and slipped out of his hands rolling into the net.1-1
Quickly we started to pass more frequently giving Dover less of a chance to get the ball. Number 7 Thomas Cecil scored the 2nd goal we worked very hard to get this goal making it 2-1 to BSA.
Dover were awarded a penalty despite a fine dive by 1 Bradley it went in the net making the score 2-2
BSA responded by playing some better football with some good passing moves.
But the whistle blew for ½ time.
Reece Milton 10 had a great shot but was saved by Dovers keeper.
We carried on playing good football but Dover were quick moving the ball and they scored 3-2 making them 1 goal ahead of us.
We carried on playing good football and played some exceedingly good football but finally the whistle blew.
The scores were 3-2 to Dover.
BSA VS Maidstone 6th November 2011
BSA arrived at Knole Academy to play against Maidstone in the Gill shield Cup. We started off well with most of the play up their end of the pitch as we pressurised them extremely well, there were a couple of early chances for BSA as 10,Reece Milton on goal but was deflected by one of the defenders rolling to 99,Jamie Fearn who shot wide of the post. Maidstone then started having more of the possession and had a few shots on goal but 26,Jack Smith made some great saves letting no goals in. we got back into the game by playing some skilful football and great passing but were unable to score ending the first half 0-0.
2nd Half
We started off well with 16, George Robinson who played a good ball through to 10, Reece Milton who passed the ball to 9, and Alex Smith which had a shot from a long way out and was saved by the Maidstone keeper. Although BSA had some good skill Maidstone had some larger boys who could strike the ball further than us and number 12 hit the ball from a free-kick which hit the cross bar. We did not survive long as another big Maidstone kid smashed the ball over Bradleys’ head.1-0. shortly BSA responded well again looking the better side and 9,Alex Smith hit another long ball which was saved by the keeper and then 7,Thomas Cecil cleared the ball to where 9 ,Alex Smith had another long shot which curved around the Maidstone keeper.1-1. Unfortunately Maidstone reacted and scored their 2nd goal from a good ball in. 2-1. The game then ended and Maidstone had won 2-1.
Although we lost against Maidstone we had passed the ball better than previous games and next week were playing them again in the league and hope to get our revenge.
Number 23 Simon Coppard, number 78 Connor Anderson,88 Zack Robinson and also 11 Bevan won lots of tackles and played a good game.
BSA v Thanet District 21 January 2012
BSA went to play Thanet in Ramsgate in a League game. They had a good pitch which was virtually mud less so the ball ran well.
We started off very well as we were very patient with the ball and opportunities. BSA had most of the early play in the first half with the wind partly with us. But the wind pushed the ball wide. Before long Jamie was in front of goal slotting the ball inside the left post-1-0. 7,Thomas Cecil had a good run and a shot on goal but saved by Thanet’s goalie. There was a Good ball through to Reece no 10 which led to a goal -2-0.
There were several good passing moves like when 98 Connor Anderson to 88 Zac Robinson to7 Thomas Cecil who then had a shot but was saved by their keeper, then 99 Jamie Fearn to 78 Joedan Gugas-Cowin but the shot was over the bar.
Thanet finally attacked but no 1 Bradley Cahalin came out of our box quickly and took the ball which led to Thanet in defence where they cleared their lines so we got a corner. Then 99 Jamie Fearn passed to 7 Thomas Cecil to 98 Connor Anderson to16 George Robinson which lead our 3rd goal- 3-0.
Thanet kicked the ball off for a corner. A good cross was made followed by a shot from no 10 Reece Milton and saved then 9 Alex Smith shot- 4-0. We rounded off the first half with great passing moves from 99 Jamie Fearn to 78 Joedan Gugas-Cowin to 7 Thomas Cecil who put a great ball in and everyone seemed to have a go but the ball wouldn’t go in.There was one last opportunity in the 1st half when 98 Connor Anderson passed to 99 Jamie Fearn who set 7 Thomas Cecil across face of goal unfortunately there was no goal.
Half Time
Thanet came out with the wind behind them and played much better this half. The match was much better balanced and Thanet had a large number of free-kicks which were taken well by their no 10 well out of reach of Bradley 4-1. Thanet had two more free kicks one of which just over bar. There was a great play throughout the match from 7 Thomas Cecil who was rewarded by a great goal 5-1.
BSA had eased up some of the pressure-but this didn’t help in this half. 7 Thomas Cecil had another shot on goal but was saved by Thanet’s keeper.Another Thanet free kick was well taken which Bradley was not able to keep hold of -5-2.
The referee had blown the whistle and it was 5-2 to BSA at FT. 9 Alex Smith had a very good game with his fellow Striker 10 Reece Milton in the first half and all of the defenders did amazingly well to create the minimum opportunities for Thanet well done BSA for being very patient with opportunities this match!!!!!
